Twist and Shout ADJ’s install at Twist gives Miami Beach clubbers a lightshow to shout about… The Twist nightclub in Miami has been running for an impressive 21 years – and what better way to celebrate your 21st anniversary than throwing a huge party? Of course, every party needs atmosphere, and for atmosphere you need quality lighting suited to the venue’s features and style. Richard Trainor, owner of Twist came to the ADJ Miami Showroom looking for a new lighting upgrade for one of their rooms. ADJ’s Southeast Sales Representative, Dustin Pesnell, CEO of Freed Sales and ADJ’s Showroom Manager, Dennis Perez, helped Twist’s Richard Trainor with a lighting solution that not only fit his budget, but fit the low ceilings. Dustin and Dennis designed a show incorporating twelve of the ADJ Inno Pocket Spots and added nine Flash Kling Panels into the mix to create a show of pure lighting excitement for the club’s eager party goers. Dustin got Daniel Roller from Automated Interior involved in the project to install the system and get things running.
“The club wanted to give the second bar a reinvention ahead of its 21st anniversary,” Dustin Pesnell, CEO at Freed Sales, says. “They used Acclaim Lighting for the 2008 remodel and came to the Miami showroom to see the new stuff. After meeting with Richard, Dennis and I came up with a very cool lighting/video package for Twist. We ask Dustin why it was that our Inno Pocket Spots and Flash Kling Panels were chosen for the job and he explains just why Twist needed fixtures that were compact but still capable of fulfilling the management’s needs. “Size was the major reason, because the ceiling in the second bar is just nine-feet tall – also the prices made having a large system for a small room an affordable possibility, says Dustin.” While the club’s second bar is a fairly small room, this only seems to intensify the atmosphere created by our fixtures, with the Flash Kling Panels “ceiling mounted in a 3x3 panel grid” and a “square of twelve Inno Pocket Spots surrounding them.” The grid of panels acts as the room’s centerpiece while the Inno Pocket Spots slice the air above the dance floor with vibrant beams and scatter the floor with color patterns. “The concept was to have an intense lighting video feature in the middle of the dance-floor to draw customers in,” says Dustin, and thanks to the pixel mapping capabilities of the Kling fixtures, the club now uses the panels to send out messages, spelling out TWIST in huge LED letters above the dance-floor! “The crowd’s reaction has been fantastic,” Dustin tells us. “Seeing ‘super-club’ technology in a small room environment along with a great sound system and a cool vibe is the perfect combo.” What about the management? “They’re getting used to dealing with two computers instead of one!” he laughs. “We have one computer running the Elation Compu Live software and one doing the Arkaos Media Master Express, which is triggered by the Compu Live computer and an Opto Branch 4.” Twist has six rooms and seven bars, the club has a modest capacity of 650 persons – giving the popular Miami Beach spot a more personal feel, with the low ceilings and small rooms giving out an underground vibe. It’s clear that ADJ’s compact moving heads and forward-thinking LED panels have complimented these traits, with Twist’s Richard Trainor telling us that “since the anniversary party back in June, when the new system was first turned on, Twist has enjoyed two record months in a row” – a remarkable achievement considering that summertime in Miami is a typically slow period due to the heat. It just goes to show that venues come in all shapes, sizes and styles, and that ADJ always has a solution. With our versatile product range and the vision of management and lighting installers, ‘super-club’ style effects can always be achieved, creating pure lighting excitement for customers; something from which venues – no matter how low their ceiling – can always benefit.
